Usually one of two things: a stripped gear & sprocket (common on LiftMaster chain-drive units after ~10 years), or a broken spring overloading the motor. The opener isn’t designed to lift a 150–400 lb door without spring assist — ours will diagnose both in one visit and quote the fix in writing before any work starts.
Door reverses halfway down. Why?
90% of the time it’s a safety sensor — the two small electric-eye boxes near the floor on each side of the door. If yours can’t be saved, we install LiftMaster 8500W (wall-mount) or 8550WLB (overhead) the same day — both with MyQ + battery backup.

Yes. We pair MyQ, link to Google Home or HomeKit, and reset the Wi-Fi after a router swap. If your opener doesn’t have built-in Wi-Fi, we install a MyQ retrofit hub that works with most LiftMaster and Chamberlain units back to 1998 — brings your old opener onto your phone.
